Why go to Perlis?

Perlis is Malaysia's smallest state, tucked into the far northwest against the Thai border — a gentle, rural landscape of emerald paddy fields, limestone outcrops and quiet country roads. It's the kind of place most travellers pass through on the way to Langkawi (its Kuala Perlis jetty is the main ferry gateway), but it rewards those who slow down.

The little capital, Kangar, and the royal town of Arau anchor a state known for its Gua Kelam cave walkway, the Perlis State Park on the border, calm lakes, and — above all — the prized Harumanis mango, some of the sweetest in the world. It's a relaxed one or two-day detour on a northern road trip.
