About MyFuelCost
Malaysia's free fuel price tracker & trip cost calculator
MyFuelCost (malaysiafuelcost.com) is a free, independent tool that helps Malaysian drivers answer one practical question: how much will this actually cost in petrol? We combine the latest official fuel prices with a real road-routing engine so you can estimate the cost of any journey before you set off — whether it's a daily commute, a balik kampung drive, or a road trip from Kuala Lumpur to Penang.
Why we built this
Fuel is one of the largest recurring costs for Malaysian households, yet most price pages only show a single number with no context. Working out what a 350 km drive costs, how much you save under Budi95, or whether RON97 is worth the premium usually means juggling a calculator and guessing your car's fuel consumption.
We wanted a single place that does the maths for you — pulling the current RON95, RON97 and diesel prices, applying your specific car's consumption, and routing your actual journey on real Malaysian roads. No sign-up, no spreadsheet, no guesswork.
Where our data comes from
- Fuel prices — sourced from the Malaysian Government open data portal (data.gov.my), which publishes the weekly retail prices set by the Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDN) under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM). Prices are refreshed every Thursday.
- RON100 — a commercial product (Petron Blaze 100) that is not part of the government weekly ceiling. We track its retail price separately from Petron's published pricing.
- Routing & distance — journeys are calculated with OSRM using OpenStreetMap road data, so distances reflect the actual driving route rather than a straight line.
- Car fuel consumption — our vehicle database uses manufacturer-style combined consumption figures, with a real-world adjustment applied in the trip calculator to better reflect Malaysian traffic and driving conditions.
How the trip calculator works
When you enter a start and destination, we find the driving route and its distance, multiply it by your selected car's real-world fuel consumption, and apply the current price of your chosen fuel. The result is an estimated one-way and return cost. Because real mileage depends on traffic, load, air-conditioning and driving style, we treat all figures as close estimates rather than exact amounts — see our disclaimer for details.
