Why go to Langkawi?
Langkawi, the star of Kedah, is an archipelago of 99 islands wrapped in ancient rainforest and ringed by beaches — all with the bonus of duty-free shopping. Legends of a cursed princess hang over the place, but today it's about cable cars soaring over the jungle, eagles wheeling above the mangroves, and sunsets over Pantai Cenang.
It's a proper holiday island rather than a quick stop: give it three or four days to island-hop, kayak the Kilim mangroves, ride the SkyCab to the sky bridge and simply slow down on the sand. Reaching it means a drive to the mainland ferry (or a short flight) — but once you're on Langkawi, a rented car and an easy pace are all you need.
