Why go to Johor Bahru?
Johor Bahru — 'JB' to everyone — is Malaysia's bustling southern capital, sitting right across the narrow strait from Singapore. Long treated as just a border town, it has grown into a destination of its own: Legoland and a cluster of theme parks, a magnificent state mosque, a dazzling glass Hindu temple, and a lively food and shopping scene fuelled by weekend crowds from across the causeway.
Beyond the city, Johor rewards a road trip — the beach resorts of Desaru, the mangroves and southernmost tip of the Asian mainland at Tanjung Piai, and easy drives up the coast. Two or three days lets you mix a theme-park day with heritage, temples and a seafood dinner. It's an easy 3–4 hour drive down the expressway from KL.
